Development of Multifunctional Myoelectric Hand Prosthesis System with Easy and Effective Mode Change Control Method Based on the Thumb Position and State

Commercial multi-degrees-of-freedom (multi-DOF) myoelectric hand prostheses can perform various gestures and grip motions using multiple DOFs. However, as most upper limb amputees have less than two electromyogram (EMG) signals generated at the amputation site, it is difficult to control multi-DOF prostheses. This paper proposes a multifunctional prosthesis system that uses only EMG sensors while improving convenience of in everyday life. The proposed comprises six-DOF an easy effective algorithm enables motions. More specifically, has five-finger mechanism small controller be mounted inside hand, allowing facilitates four gesture adduction abduction positions thumb, flexion extension state three (co-contraction, flexion, extension) sensors. Experimental results indicate versatile, flexible, for amputees.
